Pressure Washers – Differences Power Methods

Monday, October 12, 2009

As the name implies, a pressure washer is a piece of equipment
used for cleaning different surfaces with high pressure levels. In this process, a high pressure stream of water is aimed at the object to be cleaned. The water then removes tough stains, grease and other particles, leaving the surface clean. In some applications, detergent is added to the water to make the cleaning process fast, easy and effective. Such equipment is used for industrial and commercial applications, like cleaning trucks, pools, pavements, doors, machinery and so on.

There are many different types of pressure washers, varying by power methods, temperature options, heating methods, pressure levels, flow rates, and mobility. Often the most significant among these variations is the power method. There are electric pressure washers, gas pressure washers and propane pressure washers. Each of these power methods has pros and cons; let us look at some of them.

Weight

Electric washers are lighter as they do not have gasoline or propane tanks along with them. However, electric pressure washers do require that the unit is plugged into an electrical outlet, making them ideal for indoor applications where an electrical source will be readily available.

Noise

Electric pressure washers are less noisy as compared to their counterparts, gas and propane. This too makes electric-powered equipment ideal for indoor locations where the level of noise must be taken into consideration, as with nursing homes and hospitals.

Exhaust

Unlike gas and propane pressure washing equipment, the electric equipment does not emit exhaust. Therefore, it is best suited for indoors. Due to their production of exhaust, gas units should be used outdoors or in very well-ventilated areas.

Power

Gas and propane pressure washers are often more powerful due to their use of high-powered motors. However, the best electric pressure washer do offer high pressure levels and flow rates to rival the power of gas or propane powered machines. Additionally, all power methods can feature cold water, hot water, or steam temperatures depending upon the configuration of the machine. Higher temperatures mean greater cleaning power, making steam pressure washers the most effective. For a more versatile machine, consider equipment that can operate in all three depending on the application at hand.

Mobility

As far as mobility is concerned, electric pressure cleaning machines do not fare as well as gas and propane ones. Since an electric machine needs an electrical connection, it is not ideal for outdoors and other places where there is no power supply. At such places,
gas pressure washer and propane pressure cleaning equipment should be used. These are also known as mobile pressure washers. You should never try using electric pressure cleaning equipment with cord extenders, as this method is unsafe.

Ease of Use and Maintenance

Electric pressure washers need less maintenance than gas and propane pressure cleaning equipment. Moreover, these machines are much easier to operate; just turn on the power supply and the equipment is ready to use. While gas and propane equipment may be difficult to operate, this difficulty is often overlooked due to their advanced power offerings.

You should choose the pressure cleaning machine depending upon the purpose for which you intend to use it. For indoor, commercial purposes, an electric pressure washer might be ideal. While the power method is important, remember that there are many other options to choose from when finding the right machine. Consider the temperature options, heating methods, power methods, pressure levels, flow rates, and mobility configurations when shopping for a pressure washing machine.

Choosing a Steam Iron

Like all other consumer appliances, iron also underwent changes in its form and content during the past decades. Traditional charcoal heated iron gave way to electrical iron. The latest innovation is the steam iron. The advantages of this type of utility is that the steam burst helps to loosen the fibres of the clothes so as to make the ironing process smooth and perfect. Instead of the metallic sole plate getting heated by electricity, water stored in a container will be boiled to produce steam. The high pressure steam not only heat up the sole plate but also help to moisten the cloth. The steam will be sprayed through the holes provided in the sole plate.

This modern appliance has many user friendly features. A thermostat is provided to regulate the temperature. At the same time it automatically allows temperature control to facilitate ironing of different textures like cotton, wool or silk. A dial provided will indicate the temperature which is adjustable. Insulated cord protects the user from potential hazards of electric shocks or burns. The water container or reservoir is detachable to enable periodical refilling of water and avoid the hassle of carrying the appliance to the water tap for the purpose. Special provisions are incorporated in the modern machines to prevent dripping. Longer cord enhances the mobility during the ironing. The hot steam jets emerging from the holes in the sole plate are capable of removing wrinkles from even vertically hung curtains or upholstery. Steam iron is more effective to press heavy or thick items like suits and quilts.

Steam iron is now available in various designs. Leading electrical appliance manufacturers have developed many innovative models. There are smaller players also in the market catering those who opt for cheaper products. But consumers should be cautious to avoid spurious products. Remember that electrical products are subject to certification by the Authorities under the statutory British Standards. Accordingly it is illegal to sell or buy substandard products which pose threats to pubic safety.

Reputed manufacturers have introduced many special features to make the iron absolutely safe for public use. For example, some of the modern introductions will be automatically switched off, if left unattended inadvertently. This facility saves the user from many hazards. In the context of increasing number of accidents occurring in households due to defective irons or negligence on the part of the users, such safety measures are considered a boon to the busy homemaker. In addition to safety aspects, manufacturers are now using scratch resistant and non-stick sole plates for convenience and effortless operation. Ergonomically designed handles with soft grip make the job enjoyable.

Online shopping is convenient and economical while choosing the steam iron. The consumers can opt for safe and energy efficient appliances, notwithstanding the cost factor. Safety is something which cannot be compromised in the process. The consumers should also insist on long term warranty.

What You Need to Know About Blenders

A blender is an electrical kitchen appliance that is used to mix ingredients or purée food. They can chop food and blend liquids and solids together. The blender's container can be made of glass, plastic or stainless steel. In general, it has graduated markings for measuring purposes. There is also a lid at the top of the container to prevent spillage during operation. The blade is located at the bottom and is sometimes removable. The container has a base that includes the motor that is running the blade assembly. Most blenders offer various numbers of speeds.

Choosing the right one for you
At the point of sale, look out and make sure you pick the container that suits best your cooking needs. Blenders which are made from plastic are the most affordable and don't break easily. It is also not influenced to the changes in food temperatures. The only con is that if you were to wash it using a dishwasher, it will have scratch marks over time.

Apart from that, glass containers, which are slightly more expensive, is sensitive to the changes in food temperatures. They are unlikely to have scratch marks if you wash using a dishwasher.

As for stainless steel blenders, they are more suitable to blend frozen drinks. The only disadvantage is that you're not able to see what it inside the container because the container is not transparent. Therefore, in order to check on the mix the lid must be open regularly.

Basic tips on using blenders
After pouring all the ingredients in the container, put the lid firmly. Place your hand on the container lid and turn on the blender. Your hand should be on the lid on all times while the motor is running.

Occasionally you might require adding some liquid for the blender to operate more smoothly. The purpose of the liquid is to help move the solids and bring it in contact with the blade as some of the motor is not high powered. If you are blending ice cubes, add at least one cup full of liquid.

Always make sure the blender is turned off and wait until the blade comes to a complete stop before removing the lid.
If you're preparing carbonated drinks, mix all the ingredients but the carbonated one. Pour the blended mix in a separate glass and only then add in the carbonated ingredient.

In order to make cold recipes, try chilling the container in the freezer. This only applies to glass and stainless steel containers. If you are dealing with a hot liquid, leave the feeder cap open so the hot air can be released. Ensure the speed is at its lowest.

You can make quick and easy recipes, for example, by blending grounded poppy seeds, fresh coconut, dry milk and frozen fruit juices to get those yummy instant pudding or shakes.

Exercise caution
Some of the blenders must be placed securely in the base or it won't start.
Always remember that while operating a blender never remove the lid while the motor is running!
