Cleaning Business - Polishing Floors

Friday, September 18, 2009

Cleaning a house is never completed until you polish furniture and floors. Of course, the beauty of the house or the office that you are cleaning comes out if the floor shines, and in some cases, even look like a mirror. There are different ways that you can achieve this. You can use commercially-produced waxes and polish, or you can opt to make your own polishing mixtures.

For wood floors and ceramic tiles, the polish used is different from each other. Wood is much more delicate than tiles because it is very prone to scratches, dents, and warping if gotten wet. However, tile floorings also have its weaknesses, such as tendency for discoloration if the wrong mixture is used, or chipping if the force used to clean them is too extreme.

The most common cleaning processes are:

Grinding- usually done by utilizing industrial grinding machines which are also used to level surfaces; this process can remove scratches, dried up adhesive and even epoxy.

Honing - stone and marble floorings are polished through this process, making dull floors shiny and mirror-like

Waxing - utilize high-quality waxes to buff floors

Resealing - protect floorings that have been weathered by time by resealing tile joints, wood joints, and others

And
High speed polishing - this process uses high-speed floor polishers that gives floors a professional-looking shine

Since there are many different types of floors that needs polishing, this part will be tackled on its own.

The things you need (depending on the type of floor you are polishing):

1. Plenty of dry rags for applying cleaner, wax, or polish
2. Two long-handled mops for rinsing and drying
3. Waxes and polish solutions
4. A string mop - different from squeegee type mops, to be used for some types of flooring
5. Gloves for when you apply any waxing or polishing product by hand
6. And knee pads to protect your knees when you apply wax or polish by hand
7. A buffer machine and a floor polisher - both can be rented if you do not have it in storage
